The Midland Regional Dementia Nurse Advisor

The Midland Regional Dementia Nurse Advisor offers education, support and advice regarding dementia and dementia care to the five Midland DHBs, all providers of residential secure dementia and residential specialised dementia hospital level care, local Alzheimer's/Dementia societies and more.

The role, established in 2010, is one of only four across New Zealand. The advisor has represented the Midland region on national groups and has been involved in the development of many new dementia specific guidelines and resources including the MoH's guidance document 'The New Zealand Framework for Dementia Care' and the more recently published MoH's 'Secure Dementia Care Home Design Information Resource'.

Late 2016 saw the most recent review of the role with multiple stakeholders undertaking surveys to help guide the future direction of the role over the next five years.  Please click here to read the review document.
